Finasteride is the most effective FDA approved medication to treat male pattern baldness.
Finasteride is a medication that can be used to treat androgenetic alopecia (also known as male pattern baldness), strengthening hair and preventing further loss.
Finasteride reduces the amount of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in your body. Both men and women have testosterone in their body, which can be converted into DHT by an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase (5-AR) that is present within our tissues.
Finasteride reduces levels of DHT by inhibiting the enzyme 5-AR, helping stop hair loss and reducing miniaturisation. It can also be used in much larger doses as a cure for prostate issues.
Propecia and Proscar are brand names for Finasteride medication. Whichever product you receive, the medication is still Finasteride.
If you are taking Finasteride to support your hair restoration journey, you must inform your GP. If you are over 50 years old, we recommend you contact your GP to arrange a PSA test and prostate examination.
"Crucially she listened to my concerns and was able to be open and honest about what we could achieve"
Really happy with my initial consultation with Regina. Regina not only took me through the whole process step by step but crucially she listened to my concerns and was able to be open and honest about what we could achieve with my hair density.
Very happy with my experience. Did a combined FUT and FUE transplant. Both the doctor and the technicians were fantastic from start to finish. Would recommend to anybody planning to do the same thing.
Can not describe how happy I am. Every single member of staff was amazing, helpful, kind. It is a stress free building. I would highly recommend hillside hair clinic to everyone what an amazing place. If I could have another hair transplant then I’d be there again tomorrow. Very big thankyou to all the staff
How it works
Finasteride is used to treat male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) at the crown and in the middle of the scalp.
You may start noticing results after a couple of weeks of using finasteride, however you won’t see the full effects until around the 6-month mark.
