At HHC, we understand that hair loss after chemotherapy can be emotionally and physically challenging. While regrowth typically begins within 3–6 months, the quality and pace can vary. Our goal is to support healthy, confident recovery with evidence-based strategies.
1. Gentle Scalp Care
Post-chemotherapy scalps are often sensitive. Choose sulphate-free, fragrance-free cleansers to avoid irritation and preserve scalp moisture. Cleanse 2–4 times per week with non-stripping, pH-balanced formulas that support the scalp barrier.
Key focus:
- Scalp hydration
- Reducing inflammation
- Encouraging follicle stimulation
2. Scalp Massage & Stimulation
Daily scalp massage improves circulation to dormant follicles and encourages regrowth. Use fingertips or a soft scalp stimulation tool for 2–3 minutes. This enhances nutrient delivery and supports follicular health.
3. Hair Regrowth Treatments
Topical agents such as clinically approved hair growth solutions (e.g. containing minoxidil) may be used with clinical guidance to accelerate regrowth. These are applied once or twice daily to thinning areas and may reduce the shedding phase duration.
Note: Always consult an HHC specialist before starting topical hair therapies post-chemotherapy.
4. Nutritional Support for Hair Recovery
Hair growth depends on internal health. We recommend a nutrient-rich diet and/or targeted hair growth supplements containing:
- Biotin
- Zinc
- Iron
- Marine collagen
- Vitamin D and B-complex
These nutrients help support the hair growth cycle and are especially important after systemic therapies.
5. Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)
Laser caps and light-based scalp devices are increasingly used to stimulate hair follicles and improve density. These devices use red light wavelengths to increase cell metabolism and promote follicle activity.
Recommended use: 3–4 times weekly for a minimum of 3 months
6. Styling and Protective Practices
Post-chemo hair may return with new texture or fragility. Protect new growth by:
- Avoiding heat tools and tight styles
- Using silk pillowcases and scarves
- Avoiding chemical treatments for 6–12 months
