Dr Stephen Goode is a Vascular Interventional Radiologist at HHC Clinics
Dr Goode grew up in Sandiacre, Nottingham and went to school at Trent College, Long Eaton completing his GCSEs and A Levels here. Dr Goode qualified in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Leicester Medical School in 2001 (MBChB). He then completed a basic surgical training rotation in Derby obtaining a professional qualification in surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2005 (MRCS(Eng)). He then went onto complete a Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD) in Vascular Surgery at the University of Nottingham in 2010. It was during this period of research that Stephen gained his early experience in the treatment of varicose veins both using the older method of open surgical ‘vein stripping’ treatment and newer and emerging endovenous methods helping to pioneer these methodology through multiple award winning presentations and abstract conference publications. From this period of extensive research Stephen published a number of significant articles on varicose vein research which have been highly cited and have provided significant data to the literature on endovenous methodology helped to guide the current management of varicose veins as it is today. In 2008 Dr Goode won a highly prestigious Research Fellowship to the Royal College of Surgeons for his research work and held this award for 1 year.
Dr Goode completed his Radiology training on the Sheffield Radiology training scheme, gaining Fellowship to the Royal College of Radiologists in 2011. He was one of the first radiology trainees in the UK to gain a dedicated Interventional Radiology training fellowship and gained a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Interventional Radiology in 2014.
He is currently working as a Consultant Vascular Interventional Radiologist, at the Sheffield Vascular Institute, Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. He specialises in all types of vascular intervention with a specialist interest in Endovascular Aneurysm Repair including complex thoracic aortic repair and recently has developed aortic arch branch grafting techniques in Sheffield. His interests also include peripheral vascular disease, uterine fibroid embolization, prostate artery embolisation, varicocoele embolization and endovascular treatment of venous diseases including pelvic venous congestion syndrome, deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolus and venous stenting procedures for chronic venous occlusive disease. All the interventions that Dr Goode performs everyday are minimally invasive image guided procedures under local anaesthetic (with occasional GA cases) and he is an expert in performing these procedures and accessing arteries and veins under direct visual ultrasound guidance.
Dr Goode is a member of the British Society of Interventional Radiology (BSIR) and the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE). He remains active in research in Sheffield being principal investigator on a number of important multicentre international studies and continues to present at national and international conferences. He is also the research lead for the Sheffield Vascular Institute and works closely with the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University.
Dr Goode has treated varicose veins for over 20 years. He started performing varicose and thread veins treatments in the private sector in 2017 with Veincentre and worked with them for 7 years. Dr Goode was instrumental in the Veincentre expansion within East Midlands and Yorkshire and Humber regions. Over this time he set up and opened varicose veins clinics in Nottingham, Sheffield, Leeds, Hull and Newcastle leading them to successful and well respected varicose vein clinics with excellent patient feedback and clinical results. He has a vast experience of endovenous procedures and has performed over 1500 cases.
In 2023 Dr Goode opened his own bespoke varicose vein clinics in Nottingham and Harley Street London to focus on innovative targeted varicose vein treatments and clinical excellence and safety. He incorporates a patient centred approach to varicose vein treatments tailoring treatments to each individual patients and their personal circumstances. Since opening these clinics Dr Goode was shortlisted for prestigious Aesthetic awards 2023 for his pioneering varicose vein work. He looks forward to the future of offering bespoke state for the art tailored vein treatments for patients across the UK.
In his spare time, Dr Goode enjoys spending valuable family time with his 2 daughters and son travelling in their VW campervan. He is a keen competitive cyclist, swimmer and runner – taking part in a numerous races per year in open water swimming, triathlon or long distance running. He also enjoys climbing and bouldering.
